Relationships Between Shots

"The Dark Knight"

This sequence, taken from Batman "The Dark Knight" starts with the close up shot of Joker’s face is sitting at the table  while Batman hits Joker’s head of the table. Batman’s medium close up from the low-angle makes a Joker looking miserable compare to Batman. The whole tension of these first shots are completing with diegetic sound of electricity in the room’s lamps. Then we see Batman sitting down and his eyes become on the same level as Joker’s eyes which indicates that Batman is ready to listen what is Joker is about to say. All this is happening in a room behind the mirror where on the other side of the mirror people who are against Joker, they can hear and see what Batman and Joker are talking about but they can not see them back and we also can hear the diegetic sound in the room where people are just do regular movements, we can see how all these people froze in an exertion which creates even more tension to the viewer. The shots continuing with Batman talking to Joker and we can see the shots behind the right and then left Batman’s shoulders, then the same type of shots are happening behind Joker’s shoulder, all these following by some non-diegetic music of some (piano) like sound instrument. At that point we can see how Batman started to thinking about what Joker just said and the instrumental music helped a lot to show how Batman was consentraitung on his thinking. Then Batman gets mad and starts to trough Joker around and we see again Batman from low-angle, medium close up low-angle and Joker from the high-angle is in pain on the floor. The music changed from the instrumental to something squeaky (unstoppable sound) and it started creating a tension again. The cuts between the shots were seamless and smooth. The music was always on point and creating the mood, which was already there so the music just was expanding the whole feelings while watching this piece.

“What I Hear”

As I walked around my neighborhood Bay ridge in Brooklyn, I could hear peaceful melody of sounds. I used the word “peaceful” because when I went for a walk it was 10pm which consider night time but New York never sleeps… I heard the sounds of cars, storming down the street. Some of them were honking and others were blasting music out the window. The weather was a little windy and I could literally hear how wind was picking leafs up and dragging them along the sidewalk. I could hear the motion of American flag waving  on the wind. I heard the  springy sound of sneakers hit the road as runners ran down the street. I heard the airplane zooming trough the sky, as I heard the train trembling the ground. While I was walking by the private houses I heard beautiful sound of chimes jingling on the wind. As I kept walking, I heard some pedestrians talking to each other and I heard the squeaky noise of an opening gate of the garage.

What is the texture of the sound? The texture of the sound is smooth and peaceful. The sound was calm and relaxing.

What are the specific instruments in the city symphony? Specific instruments in the city symphony would be the cars honking and driving around, people talking, trains going back and fort, you almost can feel the rush in the air of the New York atmosphere.

What sounds are clues to different neighborhoods? Different times of day?
Particularly in my neighborhood, the movement of the cars honking and cutting each other starts at 9AM and continues till the afternoon when kids get home after school.

What are sounds that are unique or meaningful to you? Just unexpected?

Unique sounds to me would be the sound of the nature - the sounds of birds and the wind passing trough the trees are meaningful to me. Unexpected sound would be the melody of  birds on the trees. Usually I hear it in the morning when I take my dog for a walk.

Artist Statement

The love of art came to me at very young age when I realized that with a pencil I can create the a whole new world on the piece of paper. It was always something magical there for me. Perhaps I can share with my emotions and feelings with others trough my paintings. For example when I paint a tiger I start to feel power and strength . For my paintings I use oil, gouache, pencil or pen. I prefer to paint with oil because it gives deep three dimensional texture.
The first person who sparked my interest in Art was my grandmother. She has been a professional painter for almost half a century. I remember just sitting there long evenings with her and creating some art work... I'm also inspired by a fashion photographer Dmitriy Plyusnin. In my opinion he is the most outstanding photographer who knows how to take the right angle and reach it to the perfection.
My goals are to master my skills in media and to be able to take pictures and videos on the professional level. I intend to do web production because  it offers a lot of creativity on the way of learning.
